BMW R75/6 Cafe Racer

After almost two winters taking the latest addition to the stable apart, powder-coating, paint job, new clutch, updated front end with dual discs and rebuilt spoked wheels  - the 1976 BMW R75/6 is getting a new life as a Cafe Racer.

It's been a wonderful project rebuilding this bike together with my son Alex right in time for his 16th birthday. Hope to be on the road together soon.

There are too many sources that inspired us, help us with some difficulties or performed the work we couldn't do.
Most noticeable Bill Costello who gave us the idea about the classic look of the bike and many details on challenges he overcame with his Cafe Racer.

My friend and former colleague Rolf with way over 100k miles of riding experience, who actually owned a R75 many moons back, for his advice, encouragement and (!) who found his old 24 liter BMW tank, traded it back and gave it to me - how cool is that?

Rusty from MAX BMW who is the ultimate source when it comes to anything you want to know about Airheads. Whether it's parts, tools or advices "how to ... ", Rusty knows it all.

Doug from Doug's Cycle Barn in Fall River, MA took on the powder-coating, did the outstanding paint job, rebuilt the spoked wheels and let me use his Bridgeport mill to fit some of the parts - I learned so much from him for the next project we will take on!

Last but not least Herbert from Motorrad Wimmer in Munich, who is a former crew member of the BMW Paris -Dakar team who helped me finding the right parts for the new front end.

There are many others I could name who hand-carried bike parts from different continents to Boston  and especially those who had to listen to my endless stories about the "bike".

Sincerely thanks to all of you!

I might put together another blog with more details on the cafe racer build, but now the riding season is about to start and I gotta get away from the keyboard to handlebars.
